We are seeking an experienced Controller with successful experience in leading change, innovation and process improvement including ERP/system implementations .   The ideal candidate will  have experience in budgeting, managerial accounting, financial management benefit optimization and relationship management.  The Controller is responsible for the general accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, and company audit functions.  The incumbent will positively influence and effectively move the organization to the next level through thoughtful critical thinking and strategic insights. The Controller manages between 3 – 5 direct and indirect employees and is a key member of the company’s senior management team reporting to the CFO.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides leadership and supervision to the general accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, and company audit functions through effective communication, coaching, training, and development.
  • Oversees the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external quarterly financial statements, annual audits, annual budgets, and various tax reporting.
  • Oversees the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, cash management, and on-line sales and transactions.
  • Oversees and manages the cost accounting function of the organization.
  • Establishes (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Creates, develops, and analyzes managerial reports to improve the performance of the company and conducts ROI analysis to prioritize and direct investment to provide the best return.
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures. Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls. Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
  • Manages the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of annual and long-term financial practices that ensure efficient and successful delivery of resources to achieve operational goals.
  • Optimizes internal organization processes and infrastructure that will allow the company to continue to grow and fulfill its long-term goals and mission.
  • Collaborates with the leadership team to set priorities and determine revenue plans and forecasting, expenditures for regular operations and exploring and implementing strategic growth opportunities.
  • Works closely with information technology to verify the integrity of systems, controls, processes, and data, and enhance the company's value.
  • Represents company in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel.
  • Promotes and adheres to the company’s mission, vision, and values along with policies and applicable laws in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Other assigned duties or special projects, as needed.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related area. MBA preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven successful accounting / finance leadership experience managing a department and staff; modeling and putting into practice team building, conflict resolution and human resources development.
  • Experience in consumer products, grocery and / or retail industry needed; family owned and operated company experience a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, accounting and reporting systems (e.g., QuickBooks and ERP), payroll and timekeeping systems and other related systems.
